Standard Press Printing (4-color / CMYK)
- Uses 4 inks: Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, Black (CMYK)
- This is the industry standard for most printing
- Colors are created by mixing these 4 inks in tiny dots
- Limitations:
- Smaller color range (gamut)
- Less vibrant blues, greens, and oranges
- Skin tones and gradients can look slightly flatter
This is the “baseline” quality you see in most printed materials.
🌈 HD 6-Color Upgrade (Extended Gamut Printing)
- Uses 6 inks instead of 4
- Typically adds Orange + Green (sometimes other variants)
- This is often called “extended gamut” or “hexachrome” printing
- Designed to produce a wider color range and more accurate tones
What improves:
- More vibrant colors (especially blues, greens, oranges)
- Better skin tones (huge for portraits)
- Smoother gradients (less banding)
- Closer match to what you see on screen
- More depth and detail in images
Essentially, it bridges the gap between digital (RGB) and print.
