Important: Whenever Photoshop updates, go back through these steps and check the settings again because Photoshop will usually revert to its default Adobe settings when it updates.
There are a number of places in Photoshop you can check to ensure that your image files are in the correct color space:
Edit > Color Settings
Under Working Spaces RGB should be set to sRGB IEC61966-2.1.
Under Color Management Policies:
- RGB > Convert to Working RGB
- CMYK > Preserve Embedded Profiles
- Gray > Preserve Embedded Profiles.
Then, make sure that all three boxes below this are selected so if a file is opened that is NOT in sRGB, a message will pop up to alert you and give you the option to convert it to the correct color space.
Click OK to close this box.
Edit > Convert to Profile
Under Destination Space, make sure the Profile is sRGB IEC61966-2.0 and click OK to close this box as well.
Edit > Assign Profile
To verify that an image is in the correct color space in Photoshop, make sure that Working RGB: sRGB IEC61966-2.1 is selected and click OK.
Once the image is in the correct color space, color and density can be adjusted and other edits made prior to saving the file as a jpg for printing.
